From My Perspective

My name is Dr. Pamela Patterson. I am a Registered Psychologist (#2053) in Vancouver. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups to address the unique concerns that matter in facing challenges, developing and growing relationships and in building a worthwhile life.

I practice counselling as a process of participating with people who are opening up their lives to explore change. We are deeply shaped by the relationships, events and experiences of our lives. This is not about blaming, it is about thoughtful self awareness. Through intentional and honest engagement with someone professional whom you feel you can trust, experience can be changed, or transformed. Research supports the finding that a carefully cultivated therapeutic connection fosters real change. This includes renewed experiences of one’s self and one’s relationships. The counselling process is a worthwhile process characterized by rich experiences of healing, growth, renewal and new perspectives.

On such a journey, a well-recognized central element is the sense of having found a competent and effective therapeutic relationship. I have had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, families and groups to address meaningful changes in their lives and relationships for over 20 years. Experience helps. As you explore the possibility of counselling, I hope these pages will give you some ideas about my work.

As an overview, I have been been counselling, consulting, supervising and teaching counselling in the BC Lower Mainland since 1994. I work with the diverse and unique concerns people experience in building their lives. What my clients bring to counselling is broad, but it includes: grief, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and career decision-making. Once you’ve read through these pages, I invite you to contact me to explore the possibilities further.
